KMC and the Kandy business community have come together to improve Kandy town and to help enhance the efficiency of the services that the Council provides. This is a new initiative that the two parties have undertaken under the Local Governance Development Programme that The Asia Foundation (TAF) is conducting in collaboration with the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) in fifteen local authority jurisdictions.

Deputy Mayor Suminda Wickremasinghe chairs this new KMC-Business alliance called Devolopment Commite of Kandy municipal Council and Bussiness Commiunity. It has already prepared an elaborate plan to upgrade Dalada Veediya as its first major project. The Commitee which met recently under the leadership of Mayor L B Aluvihare together with representatives of TAF decided to seek the assistance of the businesses and banks in Dalada Veediya to fund the proposed facelift.
