Central Province Chamber
Recognises Top Entrepreneurs
Thirty
one entrepreneurs from the Central Province were recognized in the
Entrepreneur of the Year 2003 competition that the Chamber of Commerce
and Industry of the Central Province and the Federation of Chambers
of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka jointly organized earlier
this year.
The
competition was held in four categories of business, small, medium,
large and extra large. Only Vijitha Aruna Kumara of Vijitha Brass
Products won a Gold Award in the entire competition. In the medium
category three entrepreneurs Jagath Rajaratne of Studio Design World
(Pvt) Ltd., K N Kodithuwakku of Dulanjali Brass Products, and Nimal
Peiris of Tele Pix (Pvt) Ltd won silvers, and so did Indika Chandrasekera
of LH Chandrasekera & Brothers. In the extra large category
the sole winner was K A Dinapala.

The
thirty one winners in the competition received awards at a ceremony
held recently at Kandyan Art Residency Governor of the Central Province
Monty Gopallawa attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Chief
Minister of Central Province Sarath Ekanayake, Assistant High Commissioner
of India in Kandy R. Pillai, and the Deputy Mayor of Kandy L. B.
Aluvihare were the guests of honour.
President
of the Central Province Chamber Dudley D W Jayasekera welcomed the
guests. In his address he noted that the Central Province Chamber
tried its best to cater to the diverse needs of its members. We
serve the business community without any heed to ethnicity, religion,
caste or creed he said. At the same time the Chamber was also conscious
of its large responsibilities in the realm of environment, good
governance, peace building and other issues essential for the sustainable
development of a prosperous community, he noted.
