New “Lions
Club of Hill Capital” Inaugurated in Kandy
Coming together
under the name “Lions Club of Hill Capital
Kandy” a distinguished group of men and
women from Kandy have recently formed themselves
in to a new Lions Club under the Lions International
Movement. The formation of this newest Lions club
this year, Lions sources say, is important for
more than one reason. The members of the new club
without exception are individuals who have already
distinguished themselves in their chosen professional
and business fields. Collectively they represent
an invaluable resource that could serve well the
Kandy community in the years to come. The new
Club has been extended by a very distinguished
Lions Club in their own right, the Lions Club
of Senkadagala, as a part of its Silver Jubilee
Celebrations. This is also the year that the well
known banker and business leader Sri Lankan Lion
Mahendra Amarasuriya will assume the International
Presidency of the 1.2m member global Lions movement
which is the highest position that any Lion can
aspire to.
The new Lions Club was inaugurated
at a ceremony held recently at the Hotel Tourmaline
under the distinguished patronage of the Lions
International District 306C1 Governor Lion Amara
Dissanayake who inducted the twenty seven new
members and Chartered the Club. The Guest of Honour

pool of professionals and business leaders will
be mobilized to do sustainable longterm community
service projects with long-lasting results. District
Governor Dissanayake assured the new club that
the District will fully back the club in all its
endeavours.

| Wedding
bells rang in the morning of 26th of April
at the Hotel Mahaweli Reach Kandy for Surangi Samarajeewa
and Surange Hatangala. Surangi, who is trained as
a beautician in London, is a Director in the family
businesses - Salon Rosita and a catering company
- which her mother Rosita who is president of the
Women's Chamber of Commerce (Central Province) and
her late father Dayananda Samarajeewa established
in Kandy many years ago. |
|
Surangi is also
an active social worker and recently became a
charter member of the newly established Lions
Club of Hill Capital Kandy. Surange is the son
of Mr and Mrs. Kulerathne Hatangala. He is a partner
in the family business that his father started.
Although the ceremony was held in a hotel every
attempt had been made to create a homely atmosphere.
Floral decorations by Lassana Flora added a touch
of freshness and glamour to the occasion.
The bride, who was dressed by her beautician
mother, wore a Kandyan sari made by Chintha Wickremesinghe.
It was a dull gold color raw silk worked with
beerelu and crystals. The two bride's maids and
the two flower girls also were in raw silk in
a lighter brick red color. The Bridegroom, Groomsman
and the Best-man were dressed in the Kandyan style.
The wedding cakes were in unique terracotta containers
that blended well with the Kandyan theme of the
wedding.
Many a Sri Lankan wedding has bands playing
music that is too loud and makes conversation
virtually impossible. But on this occasion a musical
group called Albion Trio that is new to Kandy
played some superb music. The choice of music
was appropriate and the decibels were correct.
At weddings I prefer to have a conversation while
half listening to good music. Albion Trio new
how to play music to satisfy people like me.
