Kandy Lions Entertain Kandy with Mystique Waves

A grand fundraiser “Mystique Waves” organized by the Lions Club of Kandy provided plenty of entertainment to the guests with a colourful bridal show and music and also helped raise a substantial amount of funds for Lions community service projects.

A special feature of the event was the celebration of the birthday of Lion Lady Manel Amarasinghe. The president of the club Lion Chithra Weereratne said that they were able to raise about seven hundred thousand rupees (net) to assist the Nephrology Unit of the Kandy Hospital, provide aid to the visually handicapped, organizing diabetic awareness programs, conduct special medical clinics in rural areas and many other similar projects.

The District Governor of Lions International District 306C1 Lion Diresh Hettiarachchi and his wife Chandima were the chief guests. Laila were the main sponsors of the event and Sri Lanka Telecom and Asoka Munaweera were co-sponsors.

New Board for Women's Chamber

New Board for Women's Chamber The Women's Chamber of Commerce and Small Industries Central Province at its annual General Meeting held recently in Kandy elected a new Board for the next fiscal year. The new Board has decided to pay special attention to address the marketing problems that women entrepreneurs in the Province face. The incoming president Mrs. Shirley Jayawardane appealed to the Board to seek the cooperation of all the members to come up with projects that would generate income for the Chamber and at the same time help the members advance their businesses.

The new office bearers include Mrs. Rositta Samarajeewa (Immediate Past President) Mrs. S.M Chondon (Secretary), Mrs. Kumuduni Weerasekara (Treasurer), Corrina Sansoni (Senior Vice president) and Suhashini Weerasinghe (Vice President. Dilhani Ranasinghearachi(Asst Secretary),Damayanthi Madegoda(Asst Treasurer),Malini Ariyarathne,Janaki Piyasinghe,Namali Wadasinghe,Ayesha Rizvi,Padmini Mallawaarachchi,Subodini Maduwanthi, Pushpa de Mel, Sumathi Gunasakeram,Devika Widanapathirena

Lifetime Achievement Award for Vaagdevi Fernando from Young Entrepreneurs

The Kandy Sinhala Welenda Mandalaya Young Entrepreneurs recently gave a Lifetime Achievement Award to the Chairman of Commercial Credit Ms. Vaagdevi Fernando for her achievements in business. The event took place at the Young Entrepreneurs annual dinner dance held recently. The chief guest for the occasion was Maurice Jeganathan of HSBC. HSBC was the main sponsor of the event.
