Kandy Looks Nicer

I am a citizen of England.  I was born in Kandy, lived here and studied at Trinity College. Every year I visit Sri Lanka and my home town. On this visit I noticed some significant improvements in the town especially to ease traffic congestion. Entering the town from Gopallawa Mawtha, the view of the exposing the old buildings behind the Matale railway track was fascinating.

I was glad to see the clock tower bus stand turned into a bus bay. The idea is great but the structure is not at all in line with the other buildings. It is very ugly for the changing Kandy town. I heard from many of my friends that the Kandy Mayor is working hard to maintain Kandy heritage. In that context I hope he would consider changing the structure.

The other point I would like to make is the new buildings coming up along the Gopallawa Mawthe has no character and do not match with Kandy heritage concept. The KMC should urge the owners of the buildings to modify the frontage. If that could be done this row of buildings against the Hantana hills would be a great sight to behold.
